Summary:

This position will support the development, program planning, and execution of strategic imperatives for Baltimore CONNECT (Community-based Organizations Neighborhood Network: Enhancing Capacity Together). Baltimore CONNECT is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create and strengthen a collaborative network of community, faith-based and neighborhood organizations that advocate for the needs of people in Baltimore, and connect them to comprehensive and coordinated health and human services. Baltimore CONNECT aims to improve the health and wellbeing of Baltimore residents by 1) continuing and expanding the network of participating CBOs, faith-based institutions, neighborhood organizations, 2) partnering with state and local health departments and educational institutions, and 3) strengthening the communication and collaborative relationships between the CBOs and Johns Hopkins University and Medicine and other medical centers. Member organizations and partners work collaboratively to address social determinants of health and promote health equity. An example is the CONNECT network’s coordinated response to the COVID-19 pandemic which channeled funds and resources to the community including food, vaccines, hand sanitizer and over 800,000 masks. This position reports to the Baltimore CONNECT Board.  Salary commensurate with experience and education (range $75,000 – $90,000).

Primary responsibilities:

  • Serves as the main point of contact and provides oversight for the community members and partners of Baltimore CONNECT

  • Provides leadership in overseeing activities related to the network CBOs and subcommittees as defined in the strategic plan, and oversees budgeting for those activities;

  • Plans and manages weekly steering group and CBO meetings, including: scheduling, agenda preparation, meeting facilitation and leadership, recording of minutes, and tracking progress of assignments between meetings;

  • Prepares materials for Board Meetings and Annual Report;

  • Identifies grant opportunities and assists with grant writing to secure funds to support community engaged research, programs and development;

  • Supervises student research assistants with projects related to Baltimore CONNECT.

  • Plans Board Meetings in conjunction with Baltimore CONNECT Executive team (approximately four per year);

  • Assists with project outcomes assessment and evaluation including: indicator identification, data collection (from CBO staff, clients, and health system providers) and analysis;

  • Preparation and submission of IRB materials and renewals;

  • Liaison between JHH Community Affairs regarding community benefit initiatives

  • Manages collaborations with CBOs working with local health systems to address social determinants of health;

  • Identifies potential new CBO members and partners for Baltimore CONNECT;

  • Serves in various capacities on committees related care coordination at insurance companies/health systems in Baltimore City;

  • Liaison with Foundation and other funders;

  • Has an oversight for Baltimore CONNECT’s annual health fair;

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualities/Experience:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;

  • Task-oriented, exceptional organizational skills needed to prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail;

  • Ability to juggle/prioritize multiple competing goals/programs at once;

  • Management experience;

  • 5+ years of experience working with community-based organizations and a diverse set of stakeholders;

  • Experience working with stakeholders to identify and address social determinants of health in a community/population;

  • Must understand the conduct of research, and complete Johns Hopkins and related online Human Research Certification courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in related discipline required, MPH, MHS, or MS in relevant field preferred.

Additional graduate-level education may substitute for experience.  In an exceptional circumstances, work experience can replace these training requirements.
