Baltimore CONNECT is sharing an important update from City officials regarding potential severe thunderstorms and tornado activity expected to impact the Baltimore region on Monday, March 16.

According to the National Weather Service, weather conditions are expected to worsen overnight as a warm front moves into the region. This system may bring scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday morning, followed by a more organized line of severe storms in the afternoon and evening.

Forecasts indicate the possibility of:

  • Wind gusts reaching 70–80 mph

  • Large hail

  • Isolated tornadoes, potentially up to EF-2 intensity

  • Power outages, downed trees, and localized flooding

The City of Baltimore will activate its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at 1:00 PM on Monday to coordinate emergency response efforts across city agencies.

Important Updates

  • Baltimore City Public Schools will dismiss two hours early on Monday.

  • Some recreation centers and city facilities will close early or cancel afternoon activities.

How Residents Can Prepare

  • Charge mobile phones and essential devices in case of power outages

  • Prepare an emergency kit with flashlights, batteries, water, non-perishable food, and necessary medications

  • Secure or bring indoors outdoor furniture and loose items

  • Stay indoors during severe storms and avoid windows

If a Tornado Warning is issued, move immediately to the lowest level of your home or building, preferably to an interior room away from windows.
