Fatherhood can bring tremendous joy, purpose, and fulfillment, but it can also bring stress, pressure, frustration, and emotional challenges.

For fathers who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), parenting may sometimes bring forward emotions, memories, or reactions connected to their own childhood experiences.

This panel discussion will explore the emotional side of fatherhood and the importance of recognizing, understanding, and managing emotions in healthy and constructive ways.

Panelists will discuss how fathers can:

• Identify emotional triggers

• Respond rather than react

• Break unhealthy generational patterns

• Develop positive coping strategies

• Strengthen relationships with their children and families

• Recognize when additional support may be needed

The conversation will emphasize that emotional balance is not about suppressing emotions—it is about understanding our emotions and choosing how we respond.

Fathers will be encouraged to recognize that asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Developing emotional awareness can strengthen relationships with children, partners, families, and communities while helping create healthier patterns for future generations.

What happens when grief, trauma, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) intersect?

Join us for an important conversation exploring the connection between childhood adversity, grief, trauma, healing, and resilience.

This panel discussion will examine how childhood adversity can contribute to lasting losses and how grief may emerge at different points throughout the healing and recovery process.

This conversation is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of how grief and childhood adversity can intersect—and how we can better support individuals and families along their healing journeys.

Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) affect some of the world’s poorest communities, raising urgent questions about justice, equity, and global responsibility. This session will explore how ethical principles can guide research funding, treatment access, and protections for vulnerable populations with limited political influence.

Addressing NTDs requires more than medical solutions; it means confronting the social and systemic inequalities that allow these diseases to persist. Through social justice, health equity, and global solidarity, we can help ensure no community is left behind.

Men's Health in Our Community brings health education, screening information, preventive services, and trusted community resources directly to Baltimore residents in a welcoming environment. Hosted in partnership with Zion Baptist Church and the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center Community Outreach and Engagement Program, the event is designed to help community members learn, ask questions, access support, and connect with organizations that can support their health beyond the event.
