The Decolonizing Wealth Project (DWP) has launched the Liberated Capital Youth Mental Health Fund (YHMF) to provide critical financial support for nonprofits and Tribes focused on delivering culturally responsive mental health care for youth ages 12–24. This fund prioritizes youth of color and LGBTQ+ youth, addressing the growing mental health challenges they face in today’s rapidly changing world.
About the Youth Mental Health Fund (YHMF)
Funded with the support of Pivotal Ventures, the network of organizations founded by Melinda French Gates, the YHMF will grant at least $15 million over three years. It aims to redistribute this capital to programs that offer community-based mental health care and culturally grounded healing for marginalized youth.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for this fund, your organization must meet the following requirements:
Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit or Federally Recognized Native American Tribe (Non-Federally Recognized Tribes can apply via a fiscal sponsor).
Be based in the U.S..
Prioritize youth engagement and leadership in program development.
Grant Types
There are two types of grants available:
Anchor Grants:
$100,000 - $250,000 for organizations with 5+ years of operation and annual budgets over $2 million.
Opportunity Grants:
$30,000 - $100,000 for organizations operating for fewer than 5 years or for specific project-based grants (no budget requirements).
Funding Priorities
The YHMF will focus on:
Community-Based Programs
Increasing access to mental health care in communities (e.g., schools, churches, rural areas).
Cultural-Based Healing
Incorporating cultural practices, creative expression, and heritage-based wellness programs into mental health care.
Awareness & Advocacy Campaigns
Education and advocacy to challenge stigma and expand mental health access, especially for marginalized youth.
